Plumbing
Plumbing reroutes, repipes and fixture installation coordinated with licensed plumbing subcontractors, including slab trenching and wet-wall work.
Overview
Plumbing done right the first time
Most Florida homes sit on a concrete slab, which means moving a sink or adding a bathroom means cutting and trenching the slab to reroute plumbing. Brothers Remodelers coordinates plumbing work under one Florida Certified General Contractor license, bringing in licensed plumbing subcontractors for the rough and finish work, and sequencing the slab patch, framing and finishes so the plumbing lands in the estimate instead of as a change order.

Service options & benefits

- Replacing aging galvanized or polybutylene supply lines with PEX or copper stops leaks and improves flow, and is common in older Florida homes.
- Kitchen and bath reroutes
- Moving a sink, shower or toilet means rerouting supply and drain lines, often through the slab. We plan and price the trenching before demolition.
- Fixture installation
- Faucets, toilets, shower valves and sinks are installed and pressure-tested by licensed plumbing subcontractors.
- Water heater replacement
- Standard tank and tankless water heater replacement is coordinated with the plumbing and, where required, electrical or gas work.
Our plumbing process
- Step 01
Inspection & estimate
We inspect the existing plumbing, confirm what moves and what stays, and return a line-item proposal that includes any slab trenching.
- Step 02
Permits & procurement
We file the plumbing permit and order pipe, fittings and fixtures so rough-in happens on schedule.
- Step 03
Rough-in
Licensed plumbing subcontractors reroute supply and drain lines, trench and patch the slab where needed, and pressure-test the system before walls close.
- Step 04
Finish & fixtures
After tile and finish work, fixtures, faucets and valves are set and tested.
- Step 05
Inspection & closeout
The final plumbing inspection is scheduled and passed, and records go into your closeout package.
Florida considerations
Building in the Tampa Bay and Sarasota region comes with conditions that affect scope, cost and permitting. These are the issues that most often affect plumbing projects here.
Slab construction
Most Florida homes are built on a concrete slab, so rerouting plumbing means cutting and trenching the slab, then patching it. We plan and price that step up front.
Aging supply lines
Older Florida homes may still have galvanized steel or polybutylene supply lines that fail. A repipe to PEX or copper is a common preventive project.
Humidity and venting
Plumbing vents and drain sizing matter in a humid climate where slow drains and condensation are common; we size and vent to code.
What affects the cost of plumbing
Every estimate is built from the same line items. Knowing what drives them helps you compare bids fairly and decide where to invest.
- Scope of work
- A whole-home repipe, a single fixture reroute or a fixture swap are very different scopes. The baseline is set by how much supply and drain line is replaced or rerouted.
- Slab trenching and patching
- Most Florida homes sit on a concrete slab, so moving a fixture means cutting and trenching the slab, then patching it. The further the fixtures move, the more trenching is required — we plan and price this before demolition.
- Pipe material
- PEX and copper are the standard replacement materials for aging galvanized or polybutylene lines. Material choice affects the line item and the long-term performance of the system.
- Number of fixtures moved
- Each fixture that moves — sink, toilet, shower, tub — adds supply and drain reroutes. Keeping fixtures in place is the single biggest way to control a plumbing budget.
- Water heater replacement
- A standard tank or tankless water heater replacement adds equipment, plumbing and sometimes electrical or gas work. We coordinate it with the rest of the scope.
- Permits and inspections
- Plumbing work that moves or replaces supply or drain lines requires a permit and inspection. Permit fees vary by city and county and are part of the written estimate.
After a walkthrough and scope conversation, we return a written line-item proposal — usually within five business days. Allowances for owner-selected finishes are stated plainly, and payments follow completed milestones. See how owners fund projects on our financing page.
Permits and inspections
Plumbing work in Florida is governed by the Florida Building Code. If you live inside city limits — Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Bradenton — the permit runs through the city’s building department. In unincorporated areas it goes through the county. Each department sets its own review times and inspection windows, which is why we file early and order long-lead materials during pre-construction.
We schedule every required inspection and keep the records in your closeout package, alongside sign-offs and warranty documents. Read more about our licensing, insurance and site safety standards.
How to choose a plumbing contractor
The contractor you hire matters more than any single finish. Before signing, confirm the following:
- Verify the license. A Florida Certified General Contractor (CGC) number can be confirmed through the state DBPR online license check. Ours is CGC1535875.
- Ask for certificates of insurance. General liability and workers' compensation should be sent directly to your HOA, lender or landlord — not handed over as a photocopy.
- Require a line-item proposal. Fixed pricing with stated allowances lets you compare bids on equal terms and exposes where money is hidden in a single lump sum.
- Confirm who supervises the site. A dedicated superintendent on site — not a project manager juggling ten jobs by phone — is what keeps a project on schedule.
- Get the warranty in writing. Workmanship coverage and manufacturer warranties should be documented in a closeout package at handover, not promised verbally.
